Knowledge Economy has really grown popular amongst entrepreneurs and we have already seen a number of successful start-ups based upon this concept. FlipClass is a unique start-up which provides a platform to connect tutors with the parents looking for a tutor for their ward. Founded in June 2013 by Vineet Dwivedi, the company hires tutors and trains them to deliver student centric home tuitions.

A distinctive product of the company is ReLeMo. ReLeMo combines machine learning and big data analytics to the  learning pedagogy, to create a personalized learning path for an individual student, based on his/her learning capacity and pace. This optimizes the learning process of the student. FlipClass has also managed to raise a sum of around Rs. 1.5 crore from LetsVenture, an online fundraising platform.

We recently interviewed Aswini Kumar Palo, Assistant manager (Marketing)  of FlipClass. Let’s see what he has to say.

What motivated you to start the company and what is it all about?

You must have heard of the popular saying “Necessity is the mother of all inventions”. True to this saying, our CEO Mr. Vineet Dwivedi founded FlipClass on finding a need he struggled to fulfill. Vineet was searching for a good home tutor for his son. However, he couldn’t find one. This inspired him to explore the home-tuition market and start Flipclass. Flipclass helps parents find reliable and experienced tutors to help their children excel in the their studies.

Some of the characteristics we look for in hiring are enthusiasm for education, good analytical capabilities, good problem solving skills, be a good team player, good sales and marketing skills. Above all, we look for a positive attitude and passion to make a difference.

The industry is very large, estimated at around $11 billion. It is also growing rapidly, at 30-35% incrementally every year. We lead the market. Some of our competitors are Vedantu and Helloclass.

All these ventures are funded by VCs, backed by potential investors and all the CEOs have strong entrepreneurial experience.

In the era where digital marketing is the key to success, we lead the way. We have adopted digital marketing as our main channel for marketing. This is supplemented by event marketing and CTA marketing, which help us expand our base for potential customers.

What has been your experience with paid marketing channels?

Our experience with paid marketing channels have been good. We’ve engaged paid marketing channels from time to time. However, our experience has shown us that education being such a sensitive subject, our best form of marketing has been word-of-mouth. We strive towards delivering best service to our customers.
